'Zones of dis/comfort' is a new exploratory body of work aimed at pushing the boundaries of my current practice whilst retaining a sense of identity and continuity. Having been supported with funding via Sheffield Culture Consortium, I have worked on a series of large circular 'glitch' paintings over a three month period, the initial 5 weeks of which were carried out as a residency in the gallery space at Exchange Place Studios, Yorkshire Artspace, Sheffield.

For this series I started with a basic set of parameters for the size of the paper and the circular boundary shape, in order to eliminate the initial decision making process which can sometimes hinder the start of new work. This gave me the freedom to begin experimenting with ideas following on from previous work based on the concept of the 'glitch' as a way to disrupt and distort my usually horizontal linear style. The pieces were created as large scale samples and each one is either a development or a departure from the previous. All the works are displayed upside down - giving another unexpected dimension to the finished work, something which was totally beyond my control of composition.

Each piece is 100 x 140 cm, watercolour on 300gsm cartridge paper

The five selected painting shown below are now available as full sized gicleé prints, limited editions of 10 of each
