Spaces Between

2016

Watercolour on 200gsm cartridge

Spaces Between was a personal project, created as a way of expressing the passing of days at a particular time of uncertainty.

Each brushmark represents a minute of a 24 hour period, with each new band of colour showing a new day. The initial idea was that it would be a continuing piece, due to the fact that the length of time was unknown at the beginning, however the cathartic nature of making the work meant that I was able to finish it at the natural end of the paper. Overall just over 18 days are represented here.

There was no specific plan for the colour scheme, however the tones began to reflect the changing emotions experienced - some days darker others bright.
